Listen to NOW and buy a CD.Welcome to NOW's first CD - 'Celebration'. You will hear a blend of fun and serious music written by some of our very best composers, both living and dead, from Gustav Holst's marvellous 'First Suite', written to popularise the wind band in 1919, to 'Between the Two Rivers', Philip Sparke's variations on the famous Lutheran hymn 'Ein' feste Burge', a short symphony in all but name composed in 2004.We emphasise the Northampton connections in our programme:- Adam Gorb's 'Bermuda Triangle', a beach party for band, was commissioned by two of our prominent musical schools; Northampton School for Boys and Northampton School for Girls, with the help of BASBWE, (this is the first commercial recording of the piece). Also, Jemima Clarke makes her debut as violin soloist in John Williams' 'Schindler's List'. She now studies violin at Trinity College, London, but she is from Northampton where she took up both the violin and the flute, and gained her dipABRSM (flute) in Year 12. NOW aims to provide opportunities for members of the community to be involved in different musical genres, styles and groups; and to help people to continue to develop musically, technically and conceptually in adult life through playing challenging music which is beautiful and exciting. We hope you enjoy our selection of music and find this performance compelling and moving. |
